Chapter fifteen
Sophia
How the water stayed warm this long was beyond me. Fae powers were something to behold, that was for sure. No wonder theyâd ruled the Earth. Humans were stupid for thinking theyâd take the Faeâs power and rule themselves. The Trappers had screwed us all over. Claws sprung from the tips of my fingers as I partially shifted. I would have slaughtered them all like the Fae King and his army.
âSophia? Whatâs wrong?â Rian asked, hesitating in the doorway.
âI was thinking how stupid humans are. How they put us all in this mess.â
âYou canât blame them all.â
âI know.â I sighed and retracted my claws.
âDo you need to shift?â
âNo. Iâm fine.â I stood in the bathtub. âHand me a towel, please?â
Rian unhooked the plush white towel and draped it around my shoulders. He rubbed my back with the towel, then swooped the great length of my hair up into a tight knot. I stepped out of the tub and collected another towel to dry the rest of my body. Rian observed every tiny movement I made. He almost made me think he was a predator.
âDid you find me any clothes to wear?â
âMother had gowns made for you. The maids dropped them off.â
My eyebrows rose as I wrapped the towel around my body. âHad clothes made? Maids?â
âYouâre in the Fae palace. What did you think would happen here?â
In the Amazon, I was the Queen, but I was way out of my depth here with the Fae royals.
âI suppose I didnât think about it too much.â
He crossed his arms over his chest. âI talked about my home with you.â
âYou did, and I listened.â I stepped closer and placed my hands on his arms. âThisâI didnât expect thisâgrandness and size. You always sounded like you were talking about a cozy house.â
He unfolded his arms and took my hands in his. âIt is home to me.â
âI understand, I do, but give me a bit to take it all in. Iâm used to treehouses and caves. Not grand palaces and servants.â
âIâll give you everything you want and need.â
I smiled. âRight now, I need clothes.â My stomach rumbled. âAnd food.â
âThis way, my love.â He led me into the bedroom.
In the roomâs corner sat an enormous timber wardrobe with swaths of gowns hanging from coat hangers.
âDresses?â
âIâll ask the seamstresses to make shorts, but you might need to help them with the pattern. Theyâre only used to making gowns.â
âI guess these will have to do for now.â I selected an emerald dress. The green gown reminded me of the foliage in my home jungle.
Rian took the towels from my body and returned them to the bathroom. I slid the dress over my head. The fabric was so delicate, my nipples pebbled from the soft caress against my skin. Rianâs fingers landed on the back of my collar where he began doing up the multiple buttons down my spine.
âDo you have servants to help you dress too?â
âNo. Why do you ask?â
âHow would I have done up the buttons without you here?â
He chuckled.
